THE PROBUS CLUB OF
BOURNE END & COOKHAM
Probus Club of Bourne End and Cookham is one of over 2,000 Probus Clubs formed in the UK to meet the social and intellectual requirements of retired and semi-retired Professional Business Men.
The first Probus Clubs were an offshoot of Rotary Clubs and were formed in 1965. This Probus Club was formed in 1981 and has grown to a current level of over 50 Members.
Each year our friendly club holds 10 monthly meetings with lunches and a speaker. We also hold a mid- summer and a Christmas ladies lunch, all at the attractive Grovefield House Hotel at Taplow Common Road, Burnham which has ample car parking. Here we can chat in the bar or in the summer enjoy the spacious grounds prior to lunch. Our entertaining and inspirational speakers use the latest visual and sound systems to entertain us on subjects wide and varied. Each year we organise trips for members and their partners to a range of entertaining and interesting locations.

We cordially invite you to come along to one of our meetings where you can meet the Members and have an enjoyable social lunch. We meet at 12.15 pm in the bar of The Grovefield House Hotel, on the third Wednesday of each month for a drink and a chat. At 1.00 pm we move to the dining room where we enjoy a two course lunch and a coffee. The Chairman brings us up to date with the progress of the Club and introduces a professional speaker who talks to us for about 45 minutes on a well-rehearsed subject. After a short question and answer session the meeting closes at about 3.00 pm.

I joined Probus in 2015. My career has involved Physics and Astrophysics, working for the UK Research Councils, NASA in the US and ESA in Holland.
Since retiring in 2006, I have been active in local council work, making substantial house and garden improvements, travelling and trying to keep fit.
